Community Garden Farm Day

Who We Are

Our community gardens serve by providing fresh produce, relationship building, and education. Community members assist in tending the grow beds, our employees use the grow beds as various learning activities for camps, and community members are allowed to harvest food to take home.

What We Do

At each Farm Day event can include tasks like hydroponic tower maintenance, assembling outdoor grow beds, planting, harvesting, and farm property upkeep. These events we will work with our hands and get a little dirty!

Farm Days are seasonal group events that typically take place between April and November. Farm Days are limited and weather is unpredictable. We do not currently offer shifts Sunday-Wednesday. There are several public Farm Days in a season and are posted monthly. To book a group Farm Day, please go to the GROUP VOLUNTEERING tab.

Group Shifts are available Thursday – Saturday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

Inclement Weather Policy - Farm Day
The safety of our employees and our volunteers is a priority for Food On The Move. We realize there are emergency situations caused by inclement weather. Additionally, some outdoor events may need to be canceled due to weather conditions. This inclement weather policy outlines how Food On The Move leadership will handle cancelations and the notification of Group organizers.
Emergency Preparedness: The decision may be made to close the office and/or cancel/reschedule onsite community farming events due to inclement weather.
Samples of potential weather events:
-Rain
-Lightening
-Flooding / standing water
-Tornado
-Strong wind
-Extreme temperatures
-Icy conditions
-Blizzard
We will likely cancel if temperatures are below about 40 degrees Fahrenheit or above 90 degrees Fahrenheit.   Each outdoor event has a unique set up. Decision to cancel will be case-by-case. For example, if an event has sufficient rain coverage, we may proceed during the rain.
Communication plan for outdoor event cancelation: Every effort will be made to notify groups of a cancelation at least 6 hours prior to the event. If you are scheduled to volunteer at a Farm Day event and have concerns about the weather, please contact the group organizer. They will help assess the situation and make a decision about whether to cancel/reschedule the event.
